English Premier League Transfer Rumours – Jan 9

Arsenal- “Chelsea attacker Salomon Kalou is set to open talks with Arsenal over a possible move to the Emirates Stadium, according to rumoursin the UK.” -Arsenal FC Web

Koulu is set to play for Ivory Coast as they prepare for the Africa Cup of Nations, but is said to have flown to London to discuss a transfer with Arsenal.  Koulu has not seen the pitch much, as he has only played in four games for the Blues.  With his contract to expire at the end of the season, look for the Blues to try and get some type of return on him before his departure.

Chelsea-  “Manchester United did indeed make an enquiry for Lampard this week but were given a ‘hands off’ by Chelsea; however, the Blues are keen to allow Lampard to move abroad and the paper now links him with his former boss at Stamford Bridge, Carlo Ancelotti. The Italian was recently appointed manager of French side Paris Saint-Germain and is now being touted as a possible bidder for Lampard.”-The People

Lampard’s departure would make a lot of salary space for a big signing.  Lampard is currently making £150,000 a week from the Blues.  To take that off the books might free up space for a younger midfielder to come in.  Lampard has been vocal about his lack of playing time and believes he still has much to give.

Manchester United- “Manchester United cannot afford Wesley Sneijder’s lucrative wage demands according to Italian football agent Enzo Bronzeti, who suggests the Red Devils once again to likely fail in any purported effort to lure the midfielder to Old Trafford this month.” -Ben Moss, International Business Times

The saga continues!  After last summer of almost landing Sneijder, it seems United might be falling short again this winter.  Sneijder would be a great addition to the Unted squad and would help them push for the Premier League title once again, but with a salary exceeding the £200,000 mark, it will be tough to move the midfielder.

Liverpool- “Liverpool are one of the clubs who are eyeing up Newcastle United striker Demba Ba following news of his £10million release clause. The revelation was made at the end of last week by Spurs boss Harry Redknapp who said that Ba was being tracked by every team in the Premier League and the People reports today that Liverpool are particularly interested in the Senegal international.” -Mike Penwortham, Football Gossip
